Solon E. McKown

1926 - 1942:  Solon E. McKown was appointed Chief of Police.

William Scheerens

1942 - 1953:  William Scheerens was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as as a patrolman.

William Artlip

1953 - 1956:  William Artlip was appointed Chief of Police.  He also came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Edwin J. Lawton

1956 - 1966:  Edwin J. Lawton was appointed Chief of Police.  He was the 1st Chief to send his officers to different Law Enforcement Schools.

Donald A. Brown

1966 - 1971:  Donald A. Brown was appointed Chief of Police.

Edwin R.C. Krueger

1971 - 1976:  Edwin R.C. Krueger was appointed Chief of Police.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Vincent Krebbeks

1976 - 1981:  Vincent Krebbeks was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Edward Heathcoat

1981 - 1993:  Edward Heathcoat was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Richard Bogan

1993 - 2008:  Richard Bogan was appointed Chief of Police.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Gary VerStraete

2008 - June until August:  Gary VerStraete was appointed as Officer in Charge.

David Christler

August 2008 - November 2018:  David Christler was appointed Chief of Police.  Chief Christler retired from the New York State Police as a Deputy Superintendent.

Mark Thoms

November 2018- October 2021:  Mark Thoms was appointed Chief of Police.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.

October 2021- November 2022:  James Thomson was appointed Officer In Charge.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.

Chief Rich Martin, Ph.D.

November 2022- Present:  Richard Martin was appointed Chief of Police.  He started his police career with the Newark Police Department and then had an 11 year career with the Rochester Police Department  before becoming Newark's Chief of Police.
