The goal of the Mayor and Village Trustees, along with the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, is to preserve Our Village’s high quality lifestyles while maintaining its historic characteristics through controlled growth. The Village of Newark’s government further strives to continue a small town family atmosphere by creating a natural environment along with recreational, cultural, and educational activities for all ages.
Our Village Offices’ Administration and Financial Services is responsible for the development and control of the Village's annual budget, while ensuring accuracy of all financial reporting; economic growth; code enforcement; supervision of compensation and benefits; risk management; water and tax billing; and dog licensing.
The Department of Public Works is an essential part of Village Services which works to not only achieve government's goals, but enhance residents' quality of life. Through the completion of services such as highway and park maintenance (repairs, sweeping, plowing, brush and leaf pickup, sidewalk replacement programs); water and sewer line maintenance;water filtration and wastewater treatment; and cemetery upkeep, the DPW utilizes a highly skilled and motivated work force to ensure that all Village buildings, property, and highways are kept in excellent condition.
For the safety and well being of Village residents, Newark has a full-time Police Department whose main function is to enforce the law and ensure public safety which is apparent by our low crime rate. Finally, Village residents are served by the volunteers of the Newark Fire Department who promote fire prevention and safety, and the Newark Arcadia Ambulance which provides emergency medical treatment and transport services.
