Our Village

Welcome to the Village of NewarkLocated along the vibrant Erie Canal, the Village of Newark (founded in 1819 and incorporated in 1853) is situated between the major cities of Rochester and Syracuse. Newark is home to approximately 10,000 residents who live within the 5.4 square mile. Its convenient location - only 15 minutes from two NY State Thruway exchanges - makes it easy to provide a full complement of services. From shopping and various recreational activities to education and emergency services, Newark meets the diversified needs of our residents and visitors.  Furthermore, the existence of a full-service hospital (Newark Wayne Community Hospital) and two nursing homes (DeMay Living Center and Newark Manor Nursing Home) allows Newark to supply medical skills and expertise normally not found in a small community.

Emwood Avenue

Newark’s quaint, tree-lined streets are pleasant and inviting while offering affordable housing. Homes in the area date from the 1800’s to the newly constructed and offer a variety of opportunities for home buyers. This coupled with the small-town charm and abundant sports and recreation venues make Newark ideal for young families and retirees alike.

Erie CanalThe Erie Canal flows through the center of the village providing a unique avenue for travel and recreation, as well as a connection with our  past.  The T. Spencer Knight Park provides a tranquil spot for picnics and festivities.  From spring through fall, the Village promotes events along the canal and its "Main Street" area nearby.

Frey Street Baseball Field

The Village offers numerous recreation and sports venues.  Our parks maintain an array of some of the finest playground equipment around, along with numerous baseball and softball fields.  Skateboarding and rollerblading enthusiasts make excellent use of our state-of-the-art ramps at the K&M DeMay Skate Park. The Alex Eligh Community Center provides various recreational and social activities for the youth of the community.  A variety of programs for our senior citizens, including an affordable lunch program five times a week, completes the center's ability to provide services for all ages.  The excellent facilities of the Newark Public Library allows access to age appropriate activities to attract individuals from ages 2 to 92, while the Hoffman Clock Museum hosts timepieces to the past.

Newark Chamber of CommerceThe Village of Newark is host to several community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce which work to help promote economic and industrial growth to the Village. The Village also maintains  one of the highest per capita ratios of faith communities of any like size community.

Finally, a variety of educational facilities allows Newark to provide a complete program of learning offering academics, sports, and community interaction ranging from elementary to college levels.
